reinstalling Windows XP Pro without losing data

David Young

I only have one partition on my hard drive and need to
reinstall Windows XP without losing my progams or
settings. Can I use a utility like Partition Magic 8.01
to create a second partition, then intall the OS in the
newly created partition, move my applications, folders
and files there, then uninstall the original XP and move
things back there or will I lose my data and applications
in the process?

David,

just an amplification to Carey's message---there is no
well-known way to move an installed application from one Windows
installation into another. You would always have to reinstall
the programs.

That's why it is often better to do a repair installation, i.e.
install Windows again like an upgrade to itself.
