reinstalling windows xp lost product code

my second computer crashed. i still have my windows xp upgrade disk for that
computer. but i must have thrown away the package. all i have is my disk. it
wants me to enter the product code but i have no idea what it is. is there
any way i can skip this step to get the os on the computer. and then register
it. or how do you find out what your code is. thank you very much.

The package you threw out had a big note on the back that
said: "Store this key in a safe place". The CD itself is generic -
it does not have an embedded key. You could try and talk to
Microsoft and support your claim with your original purchase
receipt.

To put things into perspective: would you expect your music
store to replace your lost music CD if you could produce a
receipt?
