Hello again,
I have recently needed to reinstall vista after a power failure. I used my
computers system recovery disk. After much ado I am running again. Vista
moved my old windows to an old.windows directory. So, I started reintalling
all my software. Adobe Creative Suite installed like a charm. my macromedia
software, no proplems. Then came microsoft. My disk of office 2007 that came
with the computer crashes about 3/4 into installation. The message that comes
up is "Office 2007 encountered an error". Then it quits. Any suggestions from
anyone? Or should I just go buy Wordperfect.

1. Hmm .. I'd clean install Vista.. i.e. wipe the harddrive (re-format
etc.).

2. When going to install a program .. go to the CD/DVD and find the
'setup.exe' program or equivalent .. right-click on it and select "Run as an
administrator" if that option appears.

Most likely the Office 2007 is a "trail" version - usually active for 90 or
180 days. If so, consider if it is worth the effort to install.

What specifically was the error messge?

Hi Saucy,
Thanks for the reply. I'd rather not wipe everything if possible, although
that may be what I end up doing. It seems only my microsoft programs are
giving me a hard time re-installing. Everything else has worked fine. I do
run as administrator when I go to install, so that hasn't helped any. The
error message I get is so vaque I bewildered that why they even bothered
putting one on. It only reads, "Microsoft office encountered an error." Then
it closes. This is the oem version that came with my recently puchased
laptop. Even Adobe CS2 installed without a hitch, you would think Office
would too.

Hi AJR,
The error message is very vaque, "Microsoft Office 2007 encountered an
error" Thats all it says. This is an oem version that came with my computer.
Since it cost me extra to get it with the computer it should still be active
to re-install. The computer is only a couple months old. I have re-installed
most of my other programs. Only the ones from Microsoft have been a problem.

Yes .. you run in an admin account. But even so, when you go to run the
setup.exe from a CD or what-have-you, right-click and select 'Run as
administrator' instead of doing it the default way. It's just one of those
things .. especially with Microsoft stuff as they are playing with
permissions. You have to do it with Visual Studio now to get things to work
right and people are reporting that it solves problems some are having
installing Office.

If the option for 'Run as administrator' doesn't appear .. run the Command
Prompt by right-clicking and selecting 'Run as administrator' and then turn
around and launch the install program from the Command Prompt.
