Reinstalling an Outlook .pst file post-harddrive reformatting

I had to reformat my harddrive and am having an issue getting Outlook proper
to work again.

I have a .pst file backed up, but had read elsewhere in here that the way to
add it back in is NOT to copy & paste it over the new empty .pst file.

First off, in my situation, is that correct?

If not, what I’ve done so far was to:
“In Outlook do File-Open-Outlook Data File
and browse to your copied file. You then have two options - either set that
pst file as the default mail delivery location, or copy the data from that
file to your new file.†(This was copied from a post made on 8/22)

My problem was that I didn’t see any options other than to double click the
old Outlook file, which worked just fine, but I now have two sets of
calendars and email inboxes/etc. onboard at the same time.

For example, under My Calendars, there's a box for Calendar and 2nd box for
Calendar in Personal Folder.

Checking both gives me two side-by-calendars, one in white background , the
older one in green.

The "new" calendar is empty btw -- I'm recovering from a hard drive mishap
and data rescue that worked: it's reading the old .pst file just fine, it
seems, as that data is showing up in the “Personal Folder†green calendar.

Also, all accumulated emails received since the reformat are stored
separately on my server, so I think they'd make into Outlook somehow
(correct?).

Is there a way to consolidate them into one? Or, is this perhaps a situation
where overwriting the current empty "new" .pst file with the recovered one is
a good idea?

In short, what should I do to get my Outlook working exactly as it did
before the reformatting of the harddrive?

This is a Q for an outlook specific ng, not a winxp group

Since your old data file is allready attached to OL, copy any data from the
new data file to this, and close the 'new' data file. Set your 'old' data
file as the delivery store (default)

PS Overwriting a pst file will likely cause corruption to the pst or
profile, or both

Oops sorry, I see that now.

Would you mind considering it as a "what to do after reinstalling XP"
question?

I don't understand how to copy the data. I tried right clicking on one of
the inboxes, selecting copy, and pasting it into the other, and it didn't
seem to have any effect.
