reinstallation of winxp

I am hopelessly hijacked and want to do a clean install of my winxp
pro
Using dell optiplex machine
My question is how do I backup my SP2 upgrade files (that I downloaded
from Microsoft and installed when it first came out)and all of my
windows update files (I use automatic update) and then reinstall them
after format and winxp installation so that when I do go back on line
I'm not wide open for attack again?
Also would like to backup my symantic norton antivirus definitions for
reinstall before getting back on line - I realize that this is not
really in the realm of this forum, but just thought someone would know
where I can find the file on my hard drive before I format. Otherwise,
I'm afraid I will just get hit again before I can get the updated
defs, which I just got yesterday while trying to clean up this mess.
Thanks for you help and consideration of my problem

Install XP while disconnected from the 'Net. Use the SP2 CD if you have
it. If not, make sure you enable the XP firewall before going on line to
download and install it. It isn't a good idea to install programs or
devices before downloading and installing SP2 and the subsequent
updates. DON'T install Norton again. Don't have any devices like a
printer or camera connected while you install XP and the updates. Once
you've done that, do a clean up and defrag. Then install your programs
and, lastly, install your devices.
