In an explorer window, go to tools - folder options, click on file types
tab. Scroll down the list to ZIP file, highlight it and click change. You
should now choose association with Compressed (zipped) folders.

Click Start, Run and type

regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

Regards,

Thank you. That worked: I can now see zipped folders as zipped.
Follow-on question: Do you know how I can get back the ability to create
zipped folder from:
File>New>New zipped folder
That still is not an option, although pre-StuffIt, it used to be.

Did you try running *regsvr32 zipfldr.dll* ?

Best regards,

Yes, several times. Each time, "Run" reports success, but I still cannot
create a zipped fille. Thank you for the help, by the way.

You may have another program called WinZip, or a reference to such a program
still in the registry. Try searching the registry for WinZip and renaming
CAREFULLY any that dont look Microsoft. (Back up your registry first, of
course, and rename reversibly, etc.)
