Reinstall XP Home

Attempting to reinstall XP from CD provided with Computer. Get message that
the version on the CD is older than the version currently installed on the
computer. I have deleted several files that were infected with a virus and
need to reinstall these files with an uninfected version. The only way I
know to do this is to reinstall the Operating system from the CD provided by
the manufacturer. I assume that the SP2 update created this situation. Any
suggestions on how to proceed? Thanks...

You have it right. Because SP2 is on the system and the install CD is
sp1 or earlier this message comes up. There are two ways to go about
this. One is to remove SP2, then reinstall, then reapply SP2. The
better way is to create a slipstreamed installation CD with SP2
integrated into it. This is not very hard to do. Here are some links
