XP reinstall and service packs

Hello,

I have a manufacturer's recovery CD with XP on it. It installs a very
early version of XP. Once I reinstall it, is it sufficient to download
SP2 and then run windows update for the latest updates (or do I need to
run windows update after CD install but BEFORE I install SP2)?

Thanks for your help.

Run SP2 first.

So right after installing the recovery CD, I should download and install
SP2. And after that I should run Windows Update, correct? Sorry about
the silly question.

Microsoft will ship you an SP2 disk--a handy thing to have
When you get ready to use Windows update after the SP2 install, get ready
for a whack of updates

If you're not in a big hurry, you can order the SP2 CD from Microsoft.

It's easy and costs just a few dollars. Less than six dollars as I
recall.
