Help.
I was having trouble with my system and thought
(incorrectly) that maybe the trouble was with the XP
operating system. I had been using XP Home Edition for
over a year and tried reinstalling it the other day.
Setup was going good for about 3/4 the installation, then
I started getting error messages. The first was for a
driver for my sound card, and I "ignored" it. The second
was "unregmp2.exe: process entry point GETIUMS: not found
in library msdart.dll". Then, the system hung. When I
reboot, I get a message that setup is resuming, but after
some disk thrashing, all I get is a black screen with a
movable cursor arrow.
I have tried all the multiple startup options: e.g. safe
mode, debugging, last good configuration and basically
get the same result.
I have a second hard disk with Win98 SE on it that I am
using now after reconfiguring the BIOS to boot on the
second drive.
I have copied the XP CD to the XP hard drive. I have XP
and Win98 boot disks, but using these didn't let me run
setup from DOS.
I am afraid to access "setup.exe" from the Win98 drive on
either the CD or from the copied files on the XP drive. I
am not sure if there is an option as to which drive will
get installed and fear that it will overwrite the Win98
drive and leave me with two problems.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
