I'm about to upgrade M/B, CPU and memory using XP pro. I'll need to
reinstall XP. There are two methods of reinstalling on the Microsoft site.
Either a repair install (booting from XP CD) or an upgrade install from
inside XP.

Which is the better way to do this?

Can you do an upgrade install from within XP if you can't even boot to
XP? Replacing a motherboard can make booting problematic. Many people do
a repair install from the cdrom after replacing a motherboard.

That makes sense - just getting nervous as the hour approacheth!!

No need to be nervous, I've done it several times now. The repair
install tends to take a little longer than I expected, but that's about it.

None of the above. When replacing the motherboard you need to reformat the
harddrive and then do a fresh install of the OS if you want to avoid nasty
Registry errors and ongoing data corruption.

So when is this supposed to happen? I've got two systems here running
for over a year after repair installs with no issues.

Ignore Dave W.He continually posts this shite.

Well... mine hasn't been that long, but I've been running it since changing
my K7S5A to an ASRock K7S8XE+ back in October after doing a repair install.

By the way... I'm tagging on your post, Shep as a nod to ya for recommending
ASRock. I really have been happy with this board to this point. Haven't
bumped the processor up yet, though (kept my Duron 1.3) so I don't know if
likes change yet or not considering how poorly the ECS did with that.

And he never tries to explain it but just keeps right on repeating that
babble EVERY bloody time no matter HOW many people point out it's nonsense.
