Start by trying to cure the problem. There will be entries in the
registry pointing to files that are not wanted. To tidy up, get a
registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from
www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and merge
it into the registry
You will then need to reinstall any burning software that you *do* use.
If that does not work, do a repair reinstall in the first instance
(after backing up data, just in case) . Set the BIOS to boot CD before
Hard disk, then boot the XP CD, start Setup (do not take 'Repair' at
this stage), then after the license agreement take 'Repair
Installation'. This will retain your existing software installations
and most settings. But Updates will have to be run again, especially
SP1; It is important to activate the basic XP Firewall before you ever
connect to the net to get the patches, so as to be protected against
things like the BLAST worm.
If that does not do it, follow the same course but take New Install
instead. When it asks where, hit ESC, select and delete the current
partition and make a new RAW one to format at the next stage
