Reinstall vista

I installed vista Ultimate on one of my computers and have discovered that
this system is not up to par. Is it possible to install it on a different
system and restore my old OS on this one

Hi,
You can do it, but if you have activated the software on the old computer
and install it on the new one you will have problems activating it. To get it
to activate you will have to call Microsoft and explain what happended and it
should activate, just make sure you uninstall Vista on the old one. Good luck!

If it's a retail copy, yes it can be moved to a different machine. If it's
OEM, by the license it's tied to the first machine on which it's installed
(and activated).

I'm confused about the OEM issues

What about the situation where the software can't be activated (since
hardware changes would be to great), and its tied to a machine? ... is
it then a "dead" license

what if the machine is scraped, what happens to the license

Not sure what you mean here. You can change the hardware, but the question
comes up, at what point will it be considered a "new computer". If
activation doesn't go through on the internet then you have to do phone
activation, and then it's up to the person who handles that call. There is
nothing specific that says what constitutes a new computer. Some maintain
that upgrading the motherboard does. Changing a motherboard that died is
fine.

The license dies with it.

If automatic (online) activation does not succeed, call the activation
hotline number. Chances are, they will approve reactivation.
