reinstall problem that Dell can't solve

Due to a virus I have to reinstall everything. I started
with an XP reinstallation disc provided by Dell. I get
through the formatting, then a reboot, and 'installing
devices' starts. It tells me this will take 39 minutes.
After about three minutes the screen goes completely
black, no error messages, nothing. I've tried this 3
times, always the same results. Dell support folks had
me try a few things, but in the end they had no answer.
Any suggestions?

Hi John,

When the screen goes black, how long do you wait before taking any action?
It has been a while since I've installed but, it seems that the screen does
go black a time or two during installation, then comes back on and continues
installation.

I am having the same problem... It had XP on it before
and I am using the same disc that it came with. But it
gets to having 34 minutes left, and then the screen goes
black and it stops 'thinking' I've tried it many times
on different partions of different sizes and different
formats... and none seem to work... I have left it on the
black screen for over 10 minutes and nothing happens
