work,so i decided to reinstall windows xp pro.right still with me,now it got
about 20 mins into reinstaling and my pc crashed when i finaly got it to
restart in safe mode again i got the message "set up wont work in safe mode
set up restarting pc",when it restarted it went past the splash screen and on
to a windows screen saying that "set up is restarting.....",

I would start again rather than go round in circles.

Insert the XP CD again and ensure that you get the option to "press any key
to boot from CD". This should get you to the setup wizards and i would give
a go and trying a repair option of windows first. It could also be that
there is a hardware fault (could be the drive that is faulty)as a result of
the cold power off and thus you still may not get xp installed.

Last resort.....

Do you have a spare hard drive? You could install xp if you can onto the
new/spare hard drive and once thats up and running install the second drive
and retrieve data if needed.

Hope this may help....let me know.
