Reinstall and video card not recognised ?

Hi,

I recently started to have a variety of small problems with XP, so
decided to re-install over the top of my existing installation,
preserving most of my settings. I seemed to get everything back and
working properly, except for the video.

Device Manager showed no Display Adaptors listed, not even a section
for display adaptors and the display runs very slowly. I ran the driver
install which came with my video card a Nvidea Geforce MX400 and with
some difficulty managed to get the card to show as a yellow ! in the
Display Adaptors list, but the screen still runs very slowly as before.

I then fitted yet another AGP video card, the predecessor to the above
which had been an hardware upgrade, and again saw a yellow ! after
installing the driver for that one, plus slow display.

Both report a 'Code 10' error and I can set both up at 1024x768.

Both have in the past worked well without problems and I have
reinstalled XP at least once before without any video card problems.
Where do I go from here?

Is there some way to remove all of the hardware drivers and get XP to
redetect all my hardware?

Thanks in advance for any replies...........

Try this!

1. Extract the driver file to a temporary folder (you do have the latest
drivers from the manufacturers web site, right?)

2. Go to device manager. Find the entry for the video board.

3. Right click. Choose "update driver"

4. Don't allow the system to search. Direct the system to the folder where
you extracted the files.

5. continue to install the drivers from there.

Good luck!

Thanks, but I have already tried that several times over. It simply
produces a yellow ! against the video card, and the 'Code 10'.

I have also tried editing out all references to the Nvidea in the
registry.

Don't know why some people have so much trouble with NVIDIA drivers. I have
installed every single set available for the past 2 years. They all worked!

Nothing much wrong with either the hardware or the drivers, I have just
installed a fresh cop of XP on a separate partition of the same drive.
It worked perfectly and recognised the Nvidea card as it should.
