Regular Size (Desktop) PC vs. Laptop

There seem to be a myriad of problems with my laptop computer. When I
had desktops there were very few problems. Currently I have a Dell
Inspiron 8500 [purchased ± 8/1/2005]. Before I had Dell desktops.

The operating system is Windows XP Pro w/ SP2.

Do laptops (and notebooks) have more problems than "equivalent"
desktops?

Not particulary, Dell generally receive good press for Laptops - but I
expect some will dissagree
