Regular shut-down at power failure

I have a PC controlling a process. In case of a power failure the PC shuts
down and requires disk check at start up.

I would like to have a UPS to support the pC in case of a power failue - and
then have time to shut down in a normal fashion.

How do I communicate to the PC (Windows XP) from a UPS that it should shut
down?

Please be specific on connections and possible script code etc to use.

Did you check your UPS manufacturer's web site for downloadable software?

Example:

APC's PowerChute

I take it that you do not have a UPS at present?
I just purchased one (Brand APC) and it connects to my PC via usb cable,it
will automatically shutdown the PC after so many minutes that you select or
when the battery reaches a certain % of time remaining,Very easy to
configure.
I'm sure that other brands are the same.
