Regular crashes when typing Chinese on Word 2000 with XP Home IME

I have an English-language version of XP Home and Office 2000 for educational
user. I regularly type in Chinese in Word using the "Chinese (Simplified) -
Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0 ", and while it works fine most of the time, MS Word
hangs (i.e. goes into "not responding" mode) when I do the following
operation.

1) type a few sentences in Chinese.
2) save the doc
3) type a little more
4) stop. go up somewhere else in the document, place the cursor in the
middle of a sentence, and try to enter a double-byte (i.e. full-sized)
puntuation mark, a comma, period, whatever.

Result: Word starts "not responding." It may come back to life, but usually
I have to force-quit the program. This happens almost every time on my
machine. I can work around it, but sometimes I forget, and that means I can
lose work.

This looks like a pretty obvious bug somewhere in the interaction between
Word 2000 and the Chinese IME. This absolutely never happened on my old
machine at work that ran Windows 2000 Professional and Office 2000
Professional. Does anyone out there know of a fix or a patch for this
problem?

Thanks!

Hello Michael.

You should uninstall "Pinyin IME3.0" and use IME which came with Windows XP.

You could use IME what Office 2000 uses. But I don't recommend to use it.
One reason is that it is not easy to install.

Goto this site for how to install IME on Windows XP.
Good Luck!
