my wife is chinese, i have purchased a laptop with windows xp home. i have
been trying to find a IME ( input method editor ) that she can use. she can
not use the pinyin method. she needs wubi86 5 stroke method. the only thing
i find is for xp office. is there a place to download the wubi IME for
windows xp home? this laptop is bought in canada. i am really starting to
loose my cool here. i don't think i should have to spend $800 + for xp office
just so my wife can type on this computer. any input on this problem would
nice. thankyou for your time. i hope there is a way to download a usable
ime for this computer.

Hi inthestix

You might try looking at these sites:
http://www.thisiswubi.com/news3.htm (see second entry for download)
http://www.shunsoftware.com/
http://input.foruto.com/nianqing/index.htm

http://www.sinoptic.ch/internet/wubi/ has a method of generating the
required IME that you could try. The site is in French but Google will
translate it for you :) The Chinese sites I'm unable to read but saw
them recommended on various forums; I hope they might help.

Thankyou Nightowl. the french link has 2 files you can download. one is
wubi rar and the other is imegen. i was able to translate the web page to
english using altavista , babel fish translation. i had to open wubi rar and
go to the system folder in wubi rar. copy the 4 files in there and paste in
windows/system 32 folder. then i had to open the imegen and run the exe
file. the imegen windows are in chinese however the sinoptic page shows the
steps and tells you what buttons to click. with a little patients and much
attention i was able to generate both ime options of wubi. my wife was very
surprised to find a chinese program on the computer that she can use. she
has since used it to write some letters and is very happy with the result.
thanks again. the sinoptic link is the key to this ime trouble. i had the
second version loaded in about 2 minutes. it pays to know what to do.
