REGSVR32 /i MSHTML.DLL Error

K

Kent_Diego

Hi All,
I am trying to fix .JPG preview error:
http://www.winxptutor.com/noimgpreview.htm
As was recommended in my post from yesterday. Thanks Ayush and Ramesh.

I get error running REGSVR32 /i MSHTML.DLL command.
Said entry point not found and that MSHTML.DLL does not appear to be a .DLL
or .OCX file.
So I copied mshtml.dll from working computer in Safe Mode but still get
error and preview still not working. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Kent

register shmedia.dll, the SHIMGVW.DLL should stay registered.

regsvr32 shmedia.dll

http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/3588p1.html

Register enough DLL's and it's got to work right :)

This is a normal response if IE7 is installed.
1. Do you have IE7?
2. Does the machine you copied mshtml.dll from have IE7?
3. What is the version number of your MSHTML.DLL?

Both machines have IE7.

Okay. <Whew> That is a normal response. Did you also do
REGSVR32 /i SHIMGVW.DLL
and
REGSVR32 /i SHELL32.DLL ?
Is the problem fixed?

Ramesh, MS-MVP

Kent,

Mshtml.dll can't be registered if you have IE7 installed. This is normal.

Regarding the preview problem, download FileExtInfo from the following page and generate a report for .HTM file type.
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/fileextinfo.htm

It may look inappropriate, but there is relation between the HTML association and JPG previews.

I have the problem described here:
http://www.winxptutor.com/noimgpreview.htm

I ran all three commands to fix including the two you have asked about and
still no fix.

OK, I hope you can find the problem with browsing from desktop background

Are you seeing a blank white screen in the preview window?

No the Preview Window does not change and continues to display present
background. I will Browse to a .jpg, select it and nothing happens. If I
Browse to a .bmp it will work fine.

Type in Start, Run:

REG EXPORT HKCR\CLSID\{EAB841A0-9550-11cf-8C16-00805F1408F3} "%userprofile%\desktop\thumb.txt"

Post the contents of thumb.txt (present in the Desktop). The above key is necessary for generating the preview images for HTM/JPE/JPEG/JPG files.

REG EXPORT HKCR\CLSID\{EAB841A0-9550-11cf-8C16-00805F1408F3}
"%userprofile%\desktop\thumb.txt"

Post the contents of thumb.txt (present in the Desktop). The above key is
necessary for generating the preview images for HTM/JPE/JPEG/JPG files.

Are you seeing a blank white screen in the preview window?

No the Preview Window does not change and continues to display present
background. I will Browse to a .jpg, select it and nothing happens. If I
Browse to a .bmp it will work fine.

Kent,

The registry export looks perfectly normal. I don't have any further ideas. Sorry.
