I have Windows XP, and I was wondering how to access the registry to rempve a progam that starts up. It is looking for dtect16.exe which is nowhere to be found.. it tells me to search for the program, or remove from registry. That program appears to have something to do with AOL instant messenger. Thanks.
 
Try Autoruns utility to manage Windows startup:
