Registry Size Vs. loading Profile???

Hi, All!

I have a W2k Server, SP4, Running Content Manger – with 4Gb Ram.

Optimized for background services,
Paging File Size C:\2046 – 4139, D: 3000-4000
Current Registry Size: 202 MB (Does that seem right????)

Maximum Registry size 260MB –

We’ve has this server in operation for over a year, but over the past month,
we’ve been getting an error when logging on:
I continue to get “Windows cannot load your profile. Please increase the
registry size & restart the computer.â€

This honestly doesn’t seem right…..
Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on??

I can't image a registry that large. 4MB ~ 25MB but >200MB ?

Seems odd to me. Can you even open it to examine it with Regedit or Regedt32 ?

Are you using it as a Dedicated Server or are you running applications such as MS Office and
other apps. when logged in physically to the server ?

It is realistic that the registry has simply grown and the max size needs to
be increased. Check this link for info on modifying the reg size by changing
the value of 'RegistrySizeLimit'
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;124594). This
probably won't matter but keep in mind that changing this value may
automatically change the value of PagedPoolSize
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;140364)

Theres also a nifty tool for determining size at

Hi, All!

I have a W2k Server, SP4, Running Content Manger â¤=3F with 4Gb Ram..

Optimized for background services,
Paging File Size C:\2046 â¤=3F 4139, D: 3000-4000
Current Registry Size: 202 MB (Does that seem right????)

Maximum Registry size 260MB â¤=3F

Are you confusing "Registry" size with "Profile" size?

If so, people that use the MyDocuments folder to store files will always
take longer to load than people that use a Home Folder. I've found that
users with large profiles are mostly large due to undeleted TEMP files
and over-use of My Documents.

The My Documents folder was the worst thing that MS did to Network
Admins.

This server servs strictly as our intranet server. IIS & CMS only.

I can get into Regedit, but what am I looking for?
I have no idea once I'm in it.
I've tried to look at tskmgr, just to see what's eating up the
paging/registry size but tskmgr won't open.

Seriously, I'm referring to the registry - I've upped it to 260M to
accomodate it saying it's currently at 202MB.
I've upped paging, too, just for good measure...

That's really strange, my servers don't come anywhere near that and all
of them have been running for years. The IIS / MSSQL servers (with both
on them) have under 50MB for their reg.

I would guess that you've got some program installed that saves it's
information in the registry - something that didn't come with the OS
install.

Based upon Leythos' observation... Pleaase perform the following.

1) Download the following three items...

Trend Sysclean Package
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp

Latest Trend signature files.
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp

Adaware SE (personal free version)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Create a directory.
On drive "C:\"
(e.g., "c:\New Folder")
or the desktop
(e.g., "C:\Documents and Settings\lipman\Desktop\New Folder")

Download sysclean.com and place it in that directory.
Dowload the signature files (pattern files) by obtaining the ZIP file.
For example; lpt220.zip

Extract the contents of the ZIP file and place the contents in the same directory as
sysclean.com.

2) Update Adware with the latest definitions.
3) If you are using WinME or WinXP, disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
4) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode
5) Using both the Trend Sysclean utility and Adaware, perform a Full Scan of your
platform and clean/delete any infectors/parasites found.
(a few cycles may be needed)
6) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform using both the
Trend Sysclean utility and Adaware
7) If you are using WinME or WinXP,Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any
System Restore preferences, (e.g. HD space to use suggested 400 ~ 600MB),
8) Reboot your PC.
9) If you are using WinME or WinXP, create a new Restore point

You can also try some of the below online scanners.
