Registry prevents software install

Window XP Home SP2
I tried to install Nero 7 Ultra and eventually received the following
message box:
"Could not write value NeroFilterCheck to key
\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current\Version\run. Verify that you have
sufficient access to that key, or contact your your support personnel"

There are three buttons: Abort, Retry, Ignore. Pressing Abort stops the
install and rolls ir back. Retry is ovious (Does nothing in this case) Ignore
ignores the current value and stops at next value presenting the same
message.

This is a problem that recently surface and has prevented me from installing
other software. I don't have the computer set up as Adminstrator since I'm
the main user and do all installs, etc. No password required to get on. What
has happened and how do I correct this?

Are you able to write to that key manually? If not, then you have a
permissions issue (fixed by right-clicking on the registry key).
Otherwise, you'll have to contact Nero for support or otherwise check
their support forums.

Spybot's Tea Timer alerts you when there's an attempt to change the
registry. Perhaps you have a spyware, or a/v monitor which prevents the
change and doesn't alert you..

I've tried changing the permissions but, am having some problems. I'll have to "read" up more on that. Also, the problem isn't related solely to Nero. It's happened with 2 other installs.
