Registry password question

Just purchased a computer from a friend that is in a similar business.
He had a small program was registered to the computers hard drive.

He removed this program and now I'm trying to re-install mine. On
re-installation, the fields are automatically fill in and will not let
me change the values.

Basically, I have to fill in these fields and gives me a code which I
email off to the company and they send me an activation code.

There are old values that have to be removed in the registry, and
before I go too far I thought I would get some advice as to the best
way to approach this.

Best regards, David...

The best way to approach this is to contact the support staff for the
program and get guidance from them. The data could be stored anywhere
in the registry, or in a hidden file on the hard drive. It's impossible
to know where without a lot of forensics.

That is not a Windows question. The security the program uses is a function
of the program- not Windows. You have kept the program name a secret so you
can only expect general advice- which is ask the program publishers.
