Registry Fix (similar to if not the Fix-It)

Sooner or later, Windows XP Home Edition slows down. I was using Registry
Mechanic, and it helped speed things up by fixing problems in the Xp
registry, but even that fails sooner or later. I'm here to ask you if you've
anything that I can install that will keep my memory at peak, my registry
clean and clear, and basically Windows XP Home Edition running smoothly
without a needed Non-destructive or Destructive Recovery every so often. Is
there any such creature?

First, I don't accept the statement "Sooner or later, Windows XP
Home Edition slows down." That's not my experience at all.

I don't believe in using programs like Registry Mechanic and I
think the risk of something like that causing problems is far
greater than any slight potential benefit it might have.

You ask "Is there any such creature?" My answer is no, because
you're looking for the wrong solution. Keeping your system
running efficiently and cleanly is not the result of running some
magic software to accomplish this; such software more often does
harm than good.

The way to keep your system runnng smoothly is to be careful what
gets installed on it. Avoid programs that purport to improve
efficiency, but actually hurt it. Avoid installing every
shareware program out there. Avoid installing adware and spyware,
by preventing it with programs like Spyware Blaster, and removing
it if necessary by running several programs like Adaware and
Spybot Search and Destroy, and keeping all their definitions up
to date. Avoid getting infected with viruses, worms, etc. by
running a good anti-virus program and keeping its definitions
up-to-date. Avoid intrusions by running a good firewall, and
keeping it up to date.

The key word in all of these is "avoid."

I am not sure what you mean by the 'failure' of System Mechanic,
perhaps you can elaborate.

Removing redundant entries (junk) from the Registry will not 'speed
up' your machine to any perceptable extent, nor will it solve
'problems'. WINXP essentially does not require 'cleaning' of the
memory or Registry to remain efficient.

If you are having problems you need to look elsewhere such as regular
'defragging' and cleaning of temp files. I use Diskeeper for that set
to automatically defrag and cannot think of a better 'maintenance'
tool and Disk Cleaner to remove redundant files (temp and the like).
