On my Toshiba Laptop I used "Registry First Aid" *Defragment Registry*
feature, (which I had used before w/o a problem!), however, today my PC
didn't boot up anymore after defragmenting the registry but it seems to be
going into a loop advising me to either engage F2 or F12 in order to access
set up.

But, whatever I try doesn't seem to solve the problem?!! Very confusing!

I do have a disk to restore the Laptop to its original configuration,
but that is
not the issue. My question is, in a case like this one is really 'up
the creek w/o
a paddle' so sorry to say. It should not be allowed to issue software
that can
causes this type of confusion, IMHO!

Did anyone reading this ran into similar problems, and how did you help
yourself
short of reinstalling your operating system to its original configuration.

Thank you!

Using an Imaging program can avoid this pitfall. Unfortunately, your
options are limited. A Repair or In-Place install might fix the issue.
However, if you only have a recovery set then that option along with
a Recovery Console boot isn't available to you.

"After a short while of deleting, adding and updating the registry data,
the data becomes fragmented,
with data and free space intermingled. This makes registry access slow.
Registry First Aid allows you
to defragment the registry with ease.
The option Defragment the Registry is available on the home page of
Registry First Aid. It starts the
registry analyzing to detect which registry files need to be
defragmented and can be compressed. Finally
it shows original registry sizes, size after compression, saved bytes
and compression ratio.
You can select registry files you want to defragment and click Next.
This will require system restart.
Note that if you do not restart the computer, any changes made to the
registry before a restart will be lost"

Thank you, Steve, for your witty comment. I had only hoped that I didn't
overestimate the intelligence residing in this forum. ;-) Perhaps, by
chance
someone will know an easy fix (short of waiting for VISTA to be installed).

However, my next Laptop will most likely be an APPLE.
