Registry export import to XP?

G

George Newton

I have more than 100 programs installed in my W2K/SP3 system.

I want to upgrade to XP so I bought an OEM version with some
hardware and have now discovered that I can't upgrade with
that OEM version. I can only do a full install, which will
destroy my W2K registry and software install data.

So...

I'm wondering how much of my install data I can save by
first exporting sections of my W2K registry and then
importing them once XP is installed so that my 100+ programs
will be accessible.

I imagine there are greater and lesser problems with this
approach but I wonder to what extent it is
feasible/reasonble to attempt?

Hmmm?

Hello George,

OEM belongs to the hardware where it is bought with. You can not use the
install disk to install it on another hardware then the one it was bought
with.

And just importing the registry will not work. Do a fresh install of the
software and maybe the software vendor gives you information about the export/import
to another machine.
