Did you upgrade from ME to XP? If so then with ME you should have made a
boot disk; if not download one from www.bootdisk.com (a windows 98 disk will
do).
You might like to visit my website http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Click
the Win XP Faq button and take a look at question 79 before proceeding.
Insert the floppy disk into your floppy drive and reboot your machine. A
menu will appear select to boot with CD-ROM option (this will load all
options). A DOS prompt will then appear which looks like this: A:/ at this
prompt type 'format c: ' (without the quotes). You will be told that all
data on your hard drive will be destroyed. You must agree to this for the
format to proceed. Your hard drive will now be formatted. When it has
finished formatting, you can re-install Windows ME and then use your Windows
XP upgrade CD to install Windows XP.

If you didn't upgrade from ME and, instead, you have a boxed retail copy of
XP then all you need do is insert the Windows XP CD into your CD-ROM, reboot
your pc and the XP installation process will begin. In this case the best
option is to reformat the drive and proceed from there. For details on
installing windows xp visit my website http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org
Click the Win XP Faq button and take a look at questions 7 and 85
