Registry corrupt code 19

I am trying to sort out a friends computer that cannot access the cd writer or cd rom drive it comes up with 'Registry may be corrupt code 19' error. The computer then asks me to reload the software but I cannot as it won't read the cd rom drive. I had just deleted Kazaa, but nothing else. What can I do

Please any advise would be great. She runs Windows 2000 and all updates are done weekly and virus scan weekly this system is just a home computer mainly used for games and emailing
