Registry clutter from old device info

I have had several changes of CD Roms and DVD Roms thru the years which has
left bits and pieces of entries in my registry. I would like to remove these
entries permanently, but have not found a useful application to help
accomplish this goal. There are repeat entries such as the following:
"H:\\?\IDE#CdRomMemorex_52MAXX_2452AJ___________________6WS3____#5&2dfcc7"
Is this a lost cause or is there a possible solution? Thanks in advance . .
..

Why do you think you need to remove these entries from your registry? Are
you experiencing a particular problem that you suspect may be due to having
these entries in your registry?

I primarily want to keep the size of this critical file down to a minimum.
When applications are removed from the system the least they can do is to
clean up every entry, driver, and directory they might have previously add
to a system. Having this massive file around with useless entries that no
longer serve any useful purpose is a sticking point of mine. BTW: I found a
way to eliminate these entries. All I had to do was to select the
'Permissions' tab from the context sensitive menu and check the FULL Control
under the Permissions for Everyone heading and click okay. I guess you can
tell that I hate clutter on my machine. Thanks for your reply . . .

Then you are poorly informed. A registry key or sub-key that will not be
accessed has no adverse effect on a computer. Remove them if you like and by
whatever means you like, but you will be accomplishing nothing of value and
you may land yourself in big trouble.

Thanks Ted for the response. I happened upon these entries when I thought I
had potential problems with my current DVD/CD-Rom drive. I wondered why I
had around 30 to 40 entries in several places, related to old CD-ROM devices
that I had removed from my system a long time ago, sitting in my registry
that I had called myself getting rid of with Registry Cleaner software that
I used. I kind of lost faith in some of the fly by night applications that
claim they are going to do one thing and end up doing something totally
different. I have currently seen no adverse effects of removing these
entries from my system. Thanks, I appreciate your feedback.

I'm glad you wrote back because it gives me a chance to apologize for saying
"you are poorly informed." What I should have said was "actually, that's not
correct."

No harm no foul.. I have another question about the registry. While I was in
the rgistry the other day I discovered another option under the file menu
which allows you to connect another machines registry with your own. Does
this allow the benefit of running applications from that shared machine?
Thanks . . .
