Wow, wouldn't think this question would make such a fuss,
but then again, it good to see both sides... if MS would of made the
registry,
self-cleaning when you delete a app, to remove all left overs...
etc..etc. then your registry would not grow to a hugh size over time.

"Grow to a huge size" is NOT any kind of problem and never will be.

Didn't Microsoft recently buy OneCare? I suspect OneCare had this registry
cleaner before being purchased
by Microsoft. If that is the case this cleaner will slowly die out.

Are you sure the free version of AVG does not protect the computer well? AVG
free detected 2 Trojans which my Norton which I have paid for did not
detect. I don't really know how good is AVG anti-virus Professional over the
free version. One thing I know about is that AVG anti-spyware is good. I
bought it after testing it for 1 day. AVG Internet security protects against
spyware, viruses and has a firewall all in one.

That almost sounds like you didn't update Norton's
virus database recently; true?

AVG has always had a good rep and still does but for
some reason complaints are starting to crop up that
didn't used to be so. I have both in stalled on two
computers; both seem to be doing a great job but I make
sure they are updated automatically and often.

Most MVPs on this group will tell you to never bother
with or use a registry cleaner. I'll modify that to
use only reputable and proven registry cleaners that
have a "restore" option in case they remove something
you need. CCleaner and Norton's cleaner both work
great here and I have never had a problem from either,
having used Norton's since their very early days. My
only complaint about Norton (Symantec now) is they're
pricing themselves out of the market.

I am sure that AVG Free AV does not provide protection identical to AVG Pro.

I am sure that paid versions of any AV provide better protection than free
(not free-trial) versions.

IMHO NOD32 and Kaspersky provide better protection than any other AV app.

Home/Small Office editions of NAV will neither detect nor remove quite a bit
of hijackware.
