Registry Change

I had some Windows Updates and they caused my computer to autodial, at
startup. I tried everything to stop it, All the Registry Entries were for
Manual (O) and the autodial was disabled etc etc.
Thru frustration, I unplugged everything attached to my computer and did a
destructive re install which included formatting. I went to Nortons and got
all of the Updates and then went to Windows and got all of theirs (dial up) I
still have everything unplugged from the back of the computer and have NOT
installed any drivers for printers etc.
Norton's did ask me if I wanted them to notify me versus Windows and the
DEFAULT was YES. I selected YES. I then went to get the final WIndows Updates
which included the network framework sp1 and some Advantage updates. I
rebooted and guess what? It autodialed and even if I stopped it from
autodialing it keeps trying. So I figured I got a Worm from the Windows
website and I installed and updated SPYBOT. I then ran SPYBOT and it said
there was a registry change for the Local machine/software/windows/security
center/antivirusnotify =disable 0 so is this the problem? what caused it to
change? SHould I change it back to o for it is currently 1 ?

Spybot's detection is not the problem. That's just telling you that your
security center isn't configured correctly. Right click on the
detections and choose, "do not flag this detection again" or something
to that effect. Look at your firewall and see if WGA is trying to call
home. If so, block it and the problem will go away.

You could send Microsoft a bill for using your dial up and not paying
for it but I expect they would ignore it.

Why does Spybot-S&D flag changes in the Windows SecurityCenter? -

Question
If I disable the Firewall and reboot, it should not autodial if that is
where the problem is occuring, correct?
Before I did a Destruction re install, I did do a "clean boot" and it
autodialed, which told me it was a Windows related problem.
So changing the 1 to a Zero in the registry that SPYBOT reported as
changed, will not make a difference?
I am at work, so I can not implement suggestions until I get home.
Thanks again, will try what you said this evening.

Unless you have a router that offers similar protection, do not disable your
firewall--not even for a few minutes as a test. It takes only a few seconds
of being on the internet without a firewall to get infected with something
like Blaster or Sasser.

I have a Dial Up and it is 28.8K and I see a screen come on that shows it
dialing, I can stop it at that point. I was just wondering if I disable the
Firewall, then it should not try to Auto Dial on start up. If I disable the
Firewall and it still tries to Auto Dial what is the information that I have
gained?

I read the link, and I am not the one who changed it, so when I tried to
click on Forums to gain more info, I got a dead end.
Thanks for the info. I did change the 1 to a zero and will be rebooting
this evening to see if that is the culprit.
It started with the last few Windows Updates and when I made anothe rpost
here a few weeks back, I was able to narrow the updates to Advantage and
Network Framework 1 Sp1 and I can not find anywhere in my computer where the
signal to dial is coming from and if i could I would turn it off. There has
to be a way and that is what I am seeking here.
Thanks

Yes, that should be fine. In that case, ignore my warning below.

Uninstall Nortons ASAP.
