Registry and InstallShield Errors

Ever since I installed Service Pack 2 for WindowsXP I've had more and more
problems installing programs. I've gotten a number of errors about the
registry when trying to install some programs

Another error I'm currently getting for a program I'm trying to install is
"The install Shield engine (ikernel.exe) could not be launched. Library not
registered". This is the 2nd program I could not install because of this
exact same message. I exchanged many emails with the tech support people at
the company of the other program and never got it resolved. Now I'm getting
it with this new program. How do I fix this?

OK, I followed the instructions at the following link
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=810608

and I now have Stdole32.tlb and Stdole2.tlb installed in the
Windows\System32 folder...but the file Stdole.tlb expanding. I've tried it
twice and after typing the text as explained in step 3 I get the following
response:

"Microsoft (R) File Expansion Utility Version 5.1.2600.0
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1990-1999. All rights reserved.
No destination specified for:
d:\i386\stdole.tl_c:\Windows\system32\stdole.tlb".

Why does it say "no destination specified"???

d:\i386\stdole.tl_ {space missing} c:\Windows\system32\stdole.tlb

I'm not sure what you mean by "no space". The only thing close to a space I
have in there is the _ symbol. I tried removing that and got the following
message "The system cannot find the path specified".

Please clarify

OK, I got the spacing correct...However that was not the problem. I'm still
getting the ikernel.exe error.

I think the link I provided was to a slightly different problem. The error
I'm getting says "Library not registered" at the end, but I can't find a
solution for this exact error message. This better not be another $30 piece
of software I can't install and can't return because its been opened.
