I upgraded the motherboard, CPU and graphics card in a
friend's computer. XP, previously registered, now is
asking him to register. XP will not accept his product
code, "in use by another computer"
Any suggestions?

You will need to ring Microsoft. You can only change 2
hardware components or else xp thinks its a new install
and will reject the cd key.

It's more than two. Motherboard (namely IDE controller), CPU type and
serial number (if enabled in either system), and graphics card make 4.
If the Motherboard has an on-board NIC, there is at least 4 points in
the voting system there.
