I get a message that says 'You have 14 days to register'.
The documentation has been chucked out..... apart from the
sticky label. How do I register. otherwise the programme
will probably go ZAP!

There are only two (2) methods to activate Windows XP:

1) via the internet

2) via the telephone

I suggest you select the option to "activate by telephone".
When you select this option, a list of toll-free numbers should
appear.
