i purchased a ASUS notebook and like most pcs, it came
with a windows xp home edition ...

i am just wondering.

can i reformat my pc totally? i mean delete everything
without having a problem with registration and update with
microsot??

and can i very if ever who owns the cd key of windows?

You can removed XP Home or do an upgrade to XP Pro. Reformatting the
drive will cause you to loose some of the OEM applications so make
sure you can download those again from ASUS.

You will need to purchase XP Pro but you are eligable for the upgrade
version since you have a license for XP Home.

Is this a machine you bought from the OEM with XP Home preinstalled?
If so, you have the license and key. You should be able to reinstall
and activate with no problems.

Is your situation different from this?

Greetings --

There's no limit to the number of times you can reinstall and
activate the same WinXP license on the same PC. Nor is there ever a
charge. If it's been more than 120 days since you last activated
that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to activate via
the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you might have to
make a 5 minute phone call.
