Hi, I need some advice on registry cleaners. I installed one, but, it was a
bit too aggressive, and caused a lot of problems. I need something that
will remove only that which should be removed. TIA Jack

I use the "Win Doctor" portion of Norton Utilities. You may custom install
this exclusively and avoid the other bs in the program. It works very well!

Thanks, I use to run JV16 also, when it was freeware. Now I have no means
of paying for it as I don't have a credit card which they accept. Jack

It still works, didn't you keep a copy of jv16 version 1.3?

Hi Fred. Thanks for the info. Found exactly what I wanted, downloaded
installed etc. and it works perfectly.
Thanks again for the tip. Jack

I've been using it on my XP Pro boxes since I installed XP Pro 9 months ago.
No problems at all.

I am basically against any frequent registry cleaning, but there is a
new one out (formally in beta still but it appears quite reliable) -
Regseeker at
http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm, and currently free.for personal
use

I would use only the regcleaner item, and once it has scanned you need
to do a select all (and review that it is not offering to delete things
you know you want), then hit the Delete key. But I tried it on a
registry that had not been cleaned, and it removed some 3000 items
(after running through 4 times) and no apparent ill effects. It makes a
backup for restoration, but make sure with *any* cleaner that you have a
restore point you could use
