Imjpmig8.1 was probably the Value Name and the path pointed to IMJPMIG.EXE
in the the Value Data.

From a web post...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Value Name: IMJPMIG8.1
Value Data:
C\WINDOWS\IME\imjp8_1\IMJPMIG.EXE /Spoil /RemAdvDef /Migration32

I have a C:\Windows\ime\imjp8_1 folder, but it's empty except for an empty
applets folder.

I would delete IMJPMIG.EXE from C:\Windows\ime\imjp8_1 if you have need for
Japanese.

Well here's an odd one. I copied it first and put the copy
on a floppy just in case, and then I deleted it. Lo and
behold, before I did *anything* else, in abot 10 second a
new file by exactly the same name, with all the same info in
properties, simply appeared.

Looks like it's something that *can't* be deleted.
Out of curiosity...
Navigate to C:\Windows\ime\imjp8_1, right click IMJPMIG.EXE, click
Properties.
On the General tab:
File version: 8.1.4202.0
description: Microsoft IME
Copyright: Copyright (C) 1995-2001 Microsoft Corporation. All rights
reserved.

Also click on the following items under Item name to see the Value...
Company: Microsoft Corporation
File Version: 8.1.4202.0
Internal Name: MS-IME
Language: Japanese
Legal Trademarks: MicrosoftR is a registered trademark of Microsoft
Corporation. Windows(TM) is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation
Original File Name: IMJPMIG.EXE
Product Name: Microsoft IME 2002
Product Version: 8.1.4202.0

Yep, I took a look and that's all what it says.

Guess MS wants it to be there really bad, the way it
reappears.

Oh well, the problem is solved, since I don't get the
messages any more, so I'm a happy camper.

Thanks for the help.

They haven't offered me any money. ;-)

SWAG: Windows Files Protection copied the IMJPMIG.EXE from the dllcache
folder.

Open the Event Viewer...
Start | Run | Type: eventvwr | Click OK |
Click on System in the left hand pane
You should see Windows File Protection entry listed under Information.
Double click on the Windows File Protection entry and you should see
something like this.

File replacement was attempted on the protected system file
C:\Windows\ime\imjp8_1\IMJPMIG.EXE. This file was restored to the original
version to maintain system stability. The file version of the system file
is...

You can try this or live with it.

The dllcache folder is Hidden, with this method it doesn't matter how your
Folder Option settings are.

Start | Run | Paste: %windir%\system32\dllcache | Click OK

Move the IMJPMIG.EXE to your Desktop.
Delete the IMJPMIG.EXE in Windows\ime\imjp8_1 folder.
Move the IMJPMIG.EXE from your Desktop back to the dllcache folder.

Whenever you run the System File Checker (sfc.exe) it will probably return
though.
