I recently sold a computer with WXP Pro. Do I have to transfer the contact
information that is tied to the XP pro product ID? If so, do I contact
microsoft or Dell computers. If I need to contact Microsoft, what phone
number do I need?

HI! to register the Windows and the Office is necessary to activate. In the

Nope. Just make sure that the computer you sold is the ONLY one with
that product ID on it.

No.
Neither.
N/A.

No. If the buyer needs to activate the software he does it himself the
normal way. Microsoft does not store any personal information relating to
activation that you can change anyway. They used to, but stopped several
years ago due to privacy concerns.

There clearer?

OK.

But there's no need to do anything, unless "transfer the install
media" means give the discs to the new owner.

But no contact with MS is needed or even useful. The OP's question was
about whether or not he needed to tell MS about the transfer. He is
wondering if he has to remove himself from info about the OS at Microsoft.
In fact there is no info at MS linking him to the OS.

A user registers himself but activates software. The two are not linked.

The new owner needs do nothing either. If the system needs to be
reactivated at some point then he just reactivates. If he wants to register
himself as a user of XP then he can do that at any time. No personal data
is collected when you activate software and no product code is entered when
you register yourself as a user.
