Registered vs. Non-ECC

I know the manual for P4PE Mobo specifies non-ecc unbuffered DDRAM memory
(Crucial CT3264Z265 as a reference to this post) however, has anyone
attempted to use ECC Registered DDRAM modules on this board, (for example
CT3272Y265)

If you did, did the PC fully boot and did any faults ocurr with this memory
modules installed.

I have also been told these types of memory are actually interchangeable on
a board, though the board may specify one or the other.

The specifications for 845PE chipset at the Intel website state the
following re: memory module support:

"Unbuffered, unregistered 184-pin non-ECC DDR SDRAM DIMMs only"

Therefore one would have to assume that ECC Registered modules will not
work.
As it states Non-ECC and Unregistered...
