one of my applications no longer shows the correct icon for it's data files.
i've tried 3 different things to no avail;

1) in win explorer, tools, folder options, file types (tab), i verified that
the application is associated with the correct extensions. i also checked
"advanced" and verified that correct icon is selected. it is correctly
selected, but does not display.

2) right click in desktop, properties, appearance, effects, change to large
icons. this is similar to a refresh display (afaik).

3) i deleted the registered extensions from the application. then in win
explorer, double clicked on a data file from this application. the file
should not launch because no association existed, but to my surprise, it
launched correctly.

so i don't know how the data files from the application are really being
associated.

anyone ever see this before?

Try this:

Find a data file for that particular program, right click on it and choose
Open With/Choose Program. Find the program in the list or browse for it if
not listed. Check the box to always use the program to open the file.

tried that too.

seems that the installation has become corrupted somehow.

i went to add/remove programs to do a repair on the install and got an ".dll
file missing or corrupt" error.
have to manually delete registry entries.

this is fun stuff.
