What serial are you talking about?
If you're talking about windows serial, it should be on the windows CD case
that you bought and not on the computer.
Microsoft doesn't care about the serial number of your computer anymore
than Blaupunkt cares about the VIN for your car in which you install
their dash radio. Microsoft only cares about the product key for THEIR
product, which is Windows. So use the sticker on the case for the
Windows product key (which is for the SAME version as you are
installing, which would be an OEM version is there is a sticker on the
case) or use the sticker on the jewel case, sleeve, or wallet in which
the Windows installation CD(s) were packaged.
