Bought a laptop and it has a registered copy of Microsoft license sticker but
it is not the number that is loaded in the system. How do I change the
registration number so that it can be verified by the Microsoft site?

Before doing anything, check whether or not WGA will validate the computer.
The registration number in use is specific to the OEM and the computer in
which it is loaded. WGA may accept it as valid. If not, then Microsoft has
an executable named KeyUpdateTool.exe that can be downloaded and used to
correct the number. It should be downloadable from the Microsoft Download
Center.

Hi,

The Product Key used by the manufacturer to initially setup the system will
not be the same as the one they supply you on a sticker. That one is used in
case you need to some day wipe and reinstall the operating system. The one
they use is a volume key specifically for their OEM distribution, and is
quite legal for validation purposes. To use the key on the sticker would
require a repair installation at a minimum.

If you have a factory-installed OEM license, and haven't since
reinstalled the OS, the revealed Product Key is probably of the drive
image used at the factory and not your specific Product Key; therefore,
it probably cannot be -- and definitely should not be -- used for a
re-installation.

How do I change the

There's no need to do so. Just remember to use the Product Key from
the CoA label, should you ever need to reinstall the OS.
