Regedit or msconfig will not run

I have McAfee with the latest and ran Ad aware and also Spybot which removed
several files. I also have removed XP sp2 and reinstalled it. I can run
Msconfig or regedit under safe mode.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks,

Sounds like you could still be infected with a virus. Will task manager
also not run? If that won't run then you're still infected.

Hi,

Hmm, odd that it runs in safe mode, I have to say!

This behavior can be caused by a virus. One of three:

W32.Spybot.Worm
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.spybot.worm.html

W32.Klez.Worm
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

W32.Yaha.Worm
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

If neither of the above applies:

Run this Free Online Virus Scan

Enable the Task Manager (Line 51)

Emergency Msconfig, Regedit, Task Manager

If the above doesn't help, run this small utility and sent the log file to
me via e-mail.

tried all of your suggestions, I also booted up in safe mode and was not
able to detect any virus. I have the latest ver of Mcafee.
Booting up in safe mode I am able to disable everthing in startup within
Msconfig

I am going to send the attachmnet you had requested also.

The one link you had sent me for enable task mgr same thing, it launches and
then goes away.

I appreciate your help
Thanks, Jack

Glad you have it settled. But I don't remember you mentioning anything that
concerned AIM.
