Regedit opens and then disappears. Has any one ever encontered this problem?

I am using XP home edition and Norton antivirus 2003 (and have kept nortons
and XP updated religiously.) I also do a full virus scan everyday.
If I open Regedit it seems to open for about 1 second and then close by
itself. This also happens if I do Ctrl-Alt-Delete (the task manager opens
and quickly closes by itself).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you for the suggestion.
I have scanned the system and as far as Norton AV can tell there is no
Worm. (The cleansing process says that I need to modify the registry and
remove certain files however I don't know what these files are? so I
restarted in safe mode and followed the instructions, but I can't remove
anything from the registry as I the instructions says "delete the values of
the infected files.) I am stuck. Does anyone have any other suggestions.

Try an online virus scan. If it is the worm it should of disabled NAV.
