Hi all,

I'm posting this again, as no-one seemed to pick up on it
yesterday.

Wonder if anyone else has had this problem. I'm logged in
with full admin privileges to WinXP Home.

When I try to run 'regedit.exe', I get a message 'Registry
editing has been disabled by your administrator' and I am
unable to figure out how to reverse this. Anyone else have
the same problem or know how to fix it?

Thanks.

Pete

A couple of things you can try;

1: Determine if ViaFamily is installed and running. Which is a parental
control filtering software, it blocks access to the registry even in safe
mode.
2: Disable or turn of VaiFamily and edit the registry normally.

This can also be caused if the DisableRegistryTools exists in the registry;
Create a Restore Point before doing the below;

1) Create a new text file
2) Add the following text

[version]
signature="$CHICAGO$"

[DefaultInstall]
AddReg=AddMe

[AddMe]

HKCU,
"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System","DisableRegistry
Tools",6
5537,00

3) Save and exit
4) Rename the file to Unlock.inf
5) Right click the file and chose install - this will be quick and will give
no indication of working
6) Open the registry, see if you have access to it

Hope this helps!

Thanks, that seemed to do it. I was recently infected with
Win32.Torvil, maybe this reset this particular setting...
