Using XP Pro SP2. I deleted the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run MSMSGS to
eliminate the pop up messages. But after windows restart (or shut down) the
key is back in the registry. Why are my changes saved?

probably as the service is set to automatic at startup. stop the
service messenger in Services.

Please remove obvious from email address if emailing.

Do not make changes in the Registry for on your next boot it will automatically
reinstall it from LastGood (Saved) files. Go here:
Start/Run/type MSCONFIG and click OK, then click the Startup tab
Scroll down to msmsgs and uncheck/disable it. Click Apply and Close then
reboot.
