refresh links

Running Powerpoint 2007 i have multiple charts that are linked to excel
spreadsheets. i need powerpoint to automatically refresh. from the posts i
have read, there should be a button from start, microsoft office, prepare,
then edit links. i have prepare, but there is no such choice for edit links.
additionally, when i click on the chart, the refresh data icon doesn't work.
the only way i can get the data to refresh is to open each chart's data
manually.

what am i doing wrong???

First: I believe that the link/file path between an Excel spreadsheet and a
cut & pasted graph in a PowerPoint slide are relational.

So, have you moved the Excel file's location to another folder? (I doubt
that's the case given your second issue...)

Second: no "Edit links" on "Prepare" - after tinkering around, it seems to
me that if you don't see that "Edit Links" button on "Prepare," it means that
there isn't any linked data in your presentation.

If you created the graph, THEN cut & pasted it into PPT, and THEN saved the
Excel spreadsheet, then PowerPoint won't consider it a "linked" graph.

But after re-reading your posts, another thought occurred to me: did you
create these graphs in Excel, or did you click on the "Insert Chart" button
in PPT?
