After I recently reformatted Windows XP I was told I should have done (?) an
Fdisk to avoid future problems. Can anyone tell me what an Fdisk is and how
it is used?

you can go
to Microsoft.com and
access a treasure trove of
information from their knowledge base.

just enter into the search criteria
something like
what is fdisk
then press enter.

Whoever told you that probably didn't know what they were talking about.
Fdisk is an Windows 9x/MS-DOS disk partitioning tool, it is used to
delete and create partitions on hard disks. Under certain circumstances
it may not be able to delete NTFS partitions. Whatever you want to
accomplish using fdisk, it can be accomplished with the Windows XP setup
program, or with the built-in Windows XP disk management tool if the
partitions that you want to work with are not the System or Boot
partitions.

Who told you that? Sounds like someone who doesn't know what's talking
about.

Can anyone tell me what an
Fdisk is and how it is used?

It's a tool that was used in previous versions of Windows to partition a
disk drive (to create one or more partitions on it) in previous versions of
Windows). It's not normally used in Windows XP, nor does it need to be.

Whoever told you that lied. Never, ever take any computer-related
advice from this person again.

Can anyone tell me what an Fdisk is and how
it is used?

FDisk is an old MS-DOS utility that is neither available or needed in
WinXP. It was used to create or delete hard drive partitions.
