Reformatting Problem

I reformatted a computer I own today, and upon startup for the first time it
requires a password for login - what gives? I never set up a password so I
don't know it. If I try repairing Windows the computer claims it has a
problem. Is there a way to figure out the password, or is there some default
password that I have simply never experienced before? Any help would be
great.

I take it this happens after installing XP and SP2. You boot the machine
then you get a login screen which asks for a password? Which version of XP
are you using? If Home try pressing the Enter key without typing anything
into the password dialogue box to see if that works. If not, or you are
using Windows Professional, you have obviously set a password during the
setup sequence.

If entering a blank password doesn't work, then boot into safe mode (as
'Administrator', blank password - tap f8 on startup for safe mode) and
remove the password from the other account via Control Panel > User Accounts
